You are mine but I am not yours
Sort of like
How maroon is always a color but a color isn't always maroon
How a sunflower is always a flower but a flower isn't always a sunflower
No no that is not to say I am encompassing
But I know more about myself
My identity, my personhood is defined beyond this little time
I stole my mother’s ornaments, webbed them in my personality
Now I raise my chin, smile and walk away when it's not worth it anymore
Plagiarized my dad’s foundations, renamed them mine
You want to talk about politics, textile dyeing techniques, friendships, cars….?
Listening ears and an interjecting tongue
Copying her actions whenever I'm excited, doing that little dance that I picked up
Between classes when we lingered in the hallways for “just another minute”
Yes I still challenge everyone to an arm wrestle, adamant that I will win
After all, I won in 9th grade and you were “the best”: are you surprised it gave me an unfaltering ego?
One Direction went on hiatus 5 years ago, yet I can still identify each member’s voice from all those hours of practice for Battle of the Bands
P.S why didn't we participate eventually?
Changed my love for the moon from a scientific pov to an obsession for its ethereal beauty
Doing the same thing over and over and over again till I've gotten the hang of it,
Repetitive like him
Bumping into her at the mall after ages, I'm still wearing my bag slung across my shoulder
Like how you showed me in grade school
Embezzled her coquettishness, flaunted it as mine
Pretending to tie my hair up, momentarily showing off my neck and letting it bounce back down
Eh voila, now you're thinking of how pretty your lipstick would stain against my neck
I shoplifted their patience, retailed it for my profit
The traffic here can be bad, I understand, I'll kill another hour
So you see now how...
I am not yours
I am not mine
